One thing about using all organic or natural products is that I find there are a lot less chances for impulse buys. When you’re at the conventional grocery store or drug store, you generally aren’t going to find Vapour Organics’ new solid perfume or Revolution Organics Lip Gloss and be tempted to snap it up. I usually find this a good [money-saving] thing, but occasionally I feel frustrated that I can’t just buy something fun on a whim.
So when I saw EOS Lip Balm at my local Duane Reade, NY’s huge chain drugstore, I had to try it. The only flavor they had was the pink one, Strawberry Sorbet, which was fine by me, since I generally like strawberry flavored things. I didn’t know much about the company, but the packaging said that it was 95% organic and 100% natural, so I went for it. And… I like it. It is here in the “have” section of this wrap-up, as opposed to the “love” section, because it’s perfectly good, and I like the fun, round orb packaging, and the smell is fine, if a little synthetic-seeming, but I still prefer Weleda’s Everon Lip Balm or Vapour’s Lux Organic Lip Conditioner.
EOS is perfectly good, and I’m curious to check out some other products from the brand, but it doesn’t blow me away. I know they say it’s natural, but it somehow doesn’t feel (or smell!) that natural. I don’t know why, and I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. I think it’s neither, and perhaps it’s just because I bought it at Duane Reade!
We all know I really like John Masters Organics products. I recently decided to add some scent back into my life, and this Rosemary Peppermint Detangler was my first stop. Jordan and I were discussing how peppermint can help with stress and fatigue, so when JMO had their 25% off Earth Day special, I bought this online. (Okay, I guess I should take back what I said, above, about not having enough chances for impulse buys! But it’s just not the same online as it is in person…)
This product is fantastic because all day after using it, I get these perfect, subtle whiffs of the delicious scent and it makes me instantly happy and refreshed. I was worried I’d smell like I got toothpaste in my hair, but the peppermint is not at all toothpaste-y, and the rosemary compliments it well. The detangler also does it’s job well, though I should add that I still use the more intense Honey and Hibiscus Hair Reconstructor on the ends of my hair for extra conditioning, because the Detangler is thin (as it’s supposed to be). And it makes a great leave-in for summer, too!
You all probably know how rare it is to find natural, non-chemical nail polish. Recently, my friend Anna reviewed Vapour’s new Nail Polish, Vernissage 3-Free Nail Lacquer, on her fabulous blog, Glitter, She Wrote. I am eager to try it! Lots of companies are doing 3-free polishes now, and I think it’s great, but it’s hard to know who to trust, besides our wonderful Vapour. I know I can use their nail polish with confidence. I can’t wait to try this. I especially like this shade, Chill, a neutral that I think would look great on fingers. For my toes, I want to try Captive. The important thing is I know I can feel safe wearing these polishes for my own health, and also around my daughter, who is teething and likes to chew on my fingers (ouch!). Not that I want her to eat any nail polish at all, but this one is better than conventional brands!
Tell us in the comments what new products you are loving and what you want to try! We love to hear from you. I am looking for a fun, new lipgloss to try. Any ideas? Post below!
