Poetic Pits Natural Deodorant (Plus a Giveaway!)

Posted by:  Jordan

One of our in-the-know readers, Serena, told us that we absolutely must try this deodorant, Poetic Pits, because she loves it so much.  Her review was so compelling (my favorite line:  “Once I was in a restaurant only wearing the petal [scented deodorant] and someone at the table next to me kept raving about my perfume.  I did not want to tell her that she was mistaken–I was not wearing a perfume, it was just my deodorant!”) that we immediately reached out to Living Libations right away to see if we could sample a few of the scents to review.  They generously sent us four scents to try out: Palo Santo, Petal, Radiant Earth, and Rose.

Poetic Pits Rose

The Rose scent is both my and Emily’s favorite of the ones they sent, but the Lavender and the GigerLily both sound beautiful too!  So, here’s the best part: they actually work as a deodorant!  And these tiny little bottles will last you forever because you only need a swipe or two per arm.  I often wear it to the gym and I smell lovely the entire workout.

The idea behind these deodorants is totally revolutionary; they use just very powerful essential oils to work with your body chemistry to act as an “odorant” instead of a “deodorant”.  I was a little skeptical that they would work after my numerous trials in natural deodorants, but they truly do keep odors away.

There are a couple things to note with this natural deodorant, though.  The first is that if you don’t like the scent of sandalwood, you probably won’t be a huge fan of the scents of these deodorants. All four of the scents we tried are extremely strong on the sandalwood oil and very potently scented–which is what makes them so effective–but it could be a turnoff to some.  The other thing that Emily and I found in testing these is that if you wear them all day and then don’t shower at night, you will stink to high heaven in the morning.  I’m not sure what it is, but we both agreed that we smelled HORRIBLE if we didn’t shower at night after wearing this deodorant the whole day.  So just be prepared to either shower before bed or right when you wake up the next morning!  Other than those two things, these powerful little “odorants” are pretty rockin’!

So who wants to test these amazingly effective deodorants out for yourself??  I have two to give away–Petal and Radiant Earth.  Both are the 10ml size, worth $70!!!!  Just leave a comment below to be entered.  For bonus points, share this post on Facebook or Twitter so your friends can enter to win too!  The giveaway will end at the end of the week on Friday, April 5th at midnight EST.  The two winners will be announced on Saturday (sorry, continental US mailing address entries only this time!)  Good luck and please continue to keep us informed of all your favorite natural products!

I’d love to try these! I stil haven’t found a natural deodorant that works for me, but doesn’t irritate my skin.

  2. I’m always up for trying a new natural deodorant. Many of them use baking soda and it irritates my skin so I haven’t found the perfect one yet.

I need to try these!! I have not found a natural deodorant that works for me yet. I have been using an unscented one by Herban Cowboy but this deodorant stops working for me half-way through the day 😦

  4. Amy Beinfest

Sounds intriguing! Would love to give it a try- especially the Petal scented one! Sandalwood, ylang ylang, chamomile and grapefruit sound like a lovely mix! Also, my new favorite organic product is the facial oils newly released by Aura Cacia (speaking of essential oils). My favorite is the rosehip seed oil (which is basically an organic form of retinol and eliminates wrinkles, sun spots, scars and blemishes), but they also offer Argan, Baobob and a few other oils in little treatment pump dispensers, as well as scented facial oil serums which I have not yet tried but am excited to do so! A little bit goes a long way- one drop covers my entire face, wet from the shower. Reasonably priced around $10-15 and works great!

I’d love to try one of these. I currently use a crystal deodorant thingie but would prefer to use something without potassium alum. As for my favorite newish organic products…I started using Lina Hanson Global Serum a month or two ago, and I adore it. I’ve used oil serums for years but this is the best one I’ve found for my very dry, very sensitive skin–so moisturizing, so gentle. My skin is more radiant than it’s been in years! Love. (Although the previous commenter’s mention of the new facial oils from Aura Cacia has me intrigued, especially for those prices!) I’ve also used a new moisturizer on top of the serum during the really cold, dry months: Bubble & Bee’s Facial Cream. It’s wonderful–and the price is right.

  7. Jordan, you can make and blend any scent you’d like with your DoTerra essential oils! In fact I recently have been using grapefruit essential oil but I use whatever I am in the mood for. 🙂

I would love to try one! I remember reading a while back about someone using sandalwood to cover up b.o. That sounded so strange to me, but I’m intrigued!

Sounds interesting! haha : ) I’ve used soapwalla and cruchy betty, both of which are pretty good!

I feel like I have tried… everything, but apparently not! Would love to give these a whirl!

  13. Jessi

I would love to try these, especially petal. I love rose scent and have nearly given up on natural deoderants because I can’t find one that works for me.

  14. Gloria

I love sandalwood! I’ve been using the “controversial” Crystal because it succeeds in lasting through ballet.

  15. Anna

I would love to try one of these… both sound gorgeous, I just ran out of my tub of soapwalla, sandalwood is one of my favorite scents… and the video on their website is awesome -“underarm charm!” “secreting sensuality!” I could use a little of that… : )

  16. pick me! pick me! dying to try this!
