First, I’m happy to announce the winner of our Kari Gran Lip Whip giveaway: Alyssa. Alyssa, please email us your mailing address so we can coordinate your prize! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
And along the lines of feeling like a winner, I had the unique opportunity last weekend to have my makeup done by the one and only Shirley Pinkson, one of the founders of W3LL PEOPLE. She was doing an event at a store in my neighborhood, Bird. Even though I have a newborn and a toddler, I could not resist the opportunity to see what Shirley would do with my makeup. (Shout out to my amazing in-laws for babysitting so I could go!) There’s nothing like a little makeup to make a new mom feel like a person again. I was so lucky to get the chance.
I love that Bird sells W3LL PEOPLE cosmetics. How awesome it is for me to be walking down the street and just pop into a store and buy one of my favorite all-natural brands! I love everything W3LL PEOPLE and have been using their products for years, but have recently become a super-fan of their mascara. It is INCREDIBLE. Seriously, even if you think you’ve found the best mascara– natural or not natural– I encourage you to drop EVERYTHING and go out and buy this one.
Shirley told me that it took them 3 years to develop the mascara because she wanted to get it just right. Well, she did. They worked hard not only on the formula, which is perfect, but also on finding the right brush. It’s made by the same manufacturer that makes Shu Uemura mascara wands, which, if you’ve ever read anything about mascara, you probably know are the beauty industry’s gold standard when it comes to mascara wands.
She also told me that the mascara is designed to be applied in two coats– not one, not three, but precisely two. And if you hold the brush up against the upper lashes for a few seconds, it coaxes them into the perfect, natural curl I’m always going for. Really, it’s the best mascara ever.
Here are the products Shirley used on me:
– The new Universalist #9 multi-stick, as both blush/contour and on my lips.
It’s a nice better-than-nude nude color.
– Realist Invisible Setting Powder
I liked it so much, I bought it.
– Nudist Colorbalm #6, layered over the Universalist #9
I would have bought it, but I already own (and love) it!
– Expressionist Mascara
Luckily, Bird had some in stock. I bought some, even though I had two at home, because Shirley said, as you can read in the image above, that it’s SOLD OUT on their website, and will be for a while. AND I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT! I always have a tube or two on hand, in addition to the one I’m currently using. THAT is how much I love it.
Actually, the best example I can tell you of how I love this mascara is this:
A few days after my son was born, I looked in the mirror. I was so happy, but I wasn’t looking quite like myself. I had just come home from the hospital, so I hadn’t been wearing makeup. I realized I needed a little something. I put on 2 coats of Expressionist Mascara and sent Jordan this text:
And in unrelated news: I am struck once again how everything in life is a little better when wearing mascara. I took a few days off from it and today put on mascara and was like “wow. Everything is better.” Must remember this in the future and blog about it. I think that’s the secret to happiness.
And here’s a photo of me nursing my baby after Shirley had worked her magic:
If you haven’t tried W3LL PEOPLE, you should. They sell samples of almost everything on their site. But not the mascara. That, you just have to buy. Believe me, you will not be sorry.
